For this project, we were given 24 hours to build a WordPress blog on a theme of our choosing using whatever plugins we saw fit. I chose to build the website “Bunny Meadow”, a fictional blog run by two friends wanting to teach people about rabbits and their proper care. With the very short timeframe, prioritization was the most important part. While not able to fully implement all the customization I intended, I managed to build the core elements and pages needed for the function of the blog.
The theme had to be changed a few times due to conflicts in function, but in the end, I used the Twenty Twenty-One theme. The WordPress setup depended greatly on the plugin Elementor and many other small plugins that enhance it or give more blocks and customization options.
Considering the theme of the blog the design needed to feel cozy and welcoming: overall soft shapes and colors and a simple design. I chose a pastel color palette composed of oranges and light green, colors that are associated with nature and feed into the “meadow” feel. I wanted the website to have the look of a notebook someone would be writing in, so the borders on the images aren’t uniform and the divider between sections looks like a scribbled line. For the typography, I used Concerto One bold for the headings for its soft playful look, and Josefin Sans for the body text.
Using Paint Tool SAI I quickly designed a logo for the website. I took the name “Bunny Meadow” and went to the quickest idea: a rabbit hiding in the grass. Making it took 10 minutes in total.
